Author Spotlight: Tiffany Current

Today I’m happy to have author Tiffany Current on the blog, to introduce us to Hannah Clark, the main character in her upcoming YA paranormal romance novel My Maker’s Keeper.

1. What is your full name? Is there anything significant about your name?
My full name is Hannah Clark. There’s nothing significant about my name. My mom just has a thing for palindromes, which is why she named me Hannah.

2. How old are you? 18.

3. Tell us about your family. What do you like and not like about them?
There’s just my mom and I. Well, my dad too, but he left us about six months ago. Apparently, there was some amazing excavation that he couldn’t say no to. So he chose work over us. But I still have my mom and she’s great. She’s fun, grounded, and always tries to force me out of my shell.

4. Who was your first kiss, and what did you think of it?
My first kiss was with Brandon Anderson. It wasn’t great. Maybe it’s because we were more friends than anything else. But it left me wanting more — something real.

5. What is your occupation?
I’m just a regular high school student.

6. What are your best and worst qualities?
Um, worst qualities, how much time do you have? I’m self-conscious, clumsy, and awkward in social situations. Those are probably my top worst qualities. As for best qualities, I think I’m nice and honest. Well, I used to be honest, but I can’t reveal everything nowadays.

7. What quality do you value most in a romantic partner?
Loyalty.

8. What is your favorite thing to do?
I know it’s lame, but I like to read books.

9. What is your greatest fear?
Being found out for what I really am.

10. What is your most treasured possession?
My dad’s personal book collection. After he left, I claimed it as my own. As much as I hate to admit it, it’s my way of staying close to him.

Author Spotlight: A.S. Johnson

PictureMeet A.S. Johnson, author of multi-genre paranormal, science fiction, and romance novels:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in a traditional family structure with four older sisters and one younger brother. My father was a retired Navy Corpman and my mom was a traditional stay at home mom until we were all in school. Both our parents taught us that hard work and determination brokered success. After high school, I attended college and married. It wasn’t until my later years that I started to follow my passion in life and become a writer full time.

2. Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Oklahoma and Texas. I believe my writing is influenced by own strong personality. We moved a lot and in order to have friends, I couldn’t sit back and be a shy person, otherwise I would have had a lonely childhood. I actively participated in sports, band, and choir. I think this trait of being a leader and not a follower as well as participating in life is something I’ve developed that comes through in each main character.

Picture3. When did you start writing, and why?

Since childhood, I’ve written poetry and short stories. It wasn’t until 2008, after a crazy dream, that I actually started to write novels. I shared my dream with my niece Stacy, who encouraged me to write it out, so I did. In a matter of days, I had written the first six chapters of my debut novel “Orion” and it has been a continual journey ever since.4. Who or what are your inspirations/influences?
My influences in my youth are what lead me to my inspirations. My English Lit teacher, Mr. Black in tenth grade had us read Ray Bradbury’s Canterbury Tales. Never in my life had I been exposed to something so vivid and deep. After that year, my love of reading boomed and I found myself amazing at how someone could pull you in and make you feel like you were a part of the story.

5. What do you write, and why? What do you enjoy about what you write?
I write a broad variation of Fiction sub-genres, Romance, Science Fiction, Paranormal, Altered History, that cover everything from young adult to erotica. The main thing I enjoy about what I write, is how the story unfolds the deeper I go into each plot.

6. What music do you listen to while writing?
I listen to a broad variety of romantic ballads in English and Spanish. These tend to spark my creative juices and help me overcome brief moments of writer’s block.

Picture

7. What is your latest book or series? Any forthcoming books?
My book, The Bayou Vampires: Lily, is to be released this March. It will be the first book in a erotica series of four. My forthcoming novel, Under Siege will be my first non-romantic based science fiction novel. I’m hopeful for a winter release date.8. “Welcome To My Worlds”: Tell us a little about the world of your latest book or series.
My worlds are futuristic in nature and science fiction based. The Bayou Vampires: Lily is set three hundred years into the future after a peaceful alien race seeks refuge on Earth only to be subjected to the lies and betrayal of a U.S. Military with a desire to create a super soldier. This series follows Lily’s journey into uncovering the truth along with three others who enter uncharted water all determine to bring down the military and make those responsible pay.

Picture

9. Introduce us to some of your characters. What do you like about them?
Lily Guidry, is a Cajun with a strong female presence who is raised as a vampire hunter. She is confident in her abilities, and a dominate force over her three older brothers. Landry, Rex, and Billy Guidry are famously notorious for being brutal in their interrogation methods of rogue vampires and aliens. Their entire existence is based upon getting the job no matter the cost, their only flaw is a family secret. These crazy Cajun brothers aren’t just crazy they are also vampires, a mutant race created when the human military tried to crossbreed with an alien race and Lily’s younger(not older) half-brothers.I like the structure of each sibling and the idea that despite their bizarre upbringing and genetics, each one of them would kill to protect the other yet when it comes to their little sister, Lily, she is the Alfa of this pack.

10. Is there a message in your book? Do you want your readers to take something home?
Every novel I write has a message of hope, determination, and self-awareness. Every female character I write is a strong female who never gives up her dreams. I want my readers to always believe in themselves first and remember they don’t need a man to give you self-worth or purpose.

Picture

11. What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy is when readers get inspired to pick themselves up and get back to the task of following their passion in life.12. A fun fact you would like your readers to know about you or your book.
The main male character, Arturo Tregree, aka Art, is named after my husband.

Author Spotlight: Colleen S. Myers

Introducing Colleen S. Myers, author of the paranormal/sci-fi/romance Solum series:

Colleen S. Myers was raised outside of Pittsburgh, PA where she grew up on Harlequin teen romances and stories from her mother’s days as a paramedic. After graduating from Allegheny College, she spent a year in service in the Americorp working at a local Pittsburgh Women Infants and Children Clinic before attending Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine on a military scholarship. Upon completing medical school, Myers attended residency at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and earned three meritorious service awards. After serving seven years of active duty, including being on base in Washington, DC during 9/11, she is now a physician at a VA Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Still an avid fan of romances into adulthood, Myers’ love of the genre inspired her to hone her craft as a writer, focusing on contemporary romance and science fiction. Her background in medicine and the military provides an inspiring layer of creative realism to her stories and characters. Myers’ first book, Must Remember, the first of the Solum series, is published by Champagne Press. The sequel, Can’t Forget, is the recipient of the 2015 RWA New England Readers Award.

Must Remember (Solum #1)
Nineteen-year-old Elizabeth ‘Beta’ Camden is a survivor. When the E’mani-those pale alien freaks-destroy Earth with a plague of madness and scoop up the remains, Beta is one of the ‘lucky’ ones. For years, she endures their tortures, experiments and games. Then one day, she manages to escape their ship with her life, and no memory of her time with them. Stranded on their world, Beta wanders the mountains, looking for a way home. She stumbles onto the Fost-the E’mani’s ancient enemy. Their war with the Imani is old and rooted in magic that the Fost once had and the Imani crave. Magic Beta soon discovers she’s developing along with strange tattoos and disturbing glimpses of her past. The Fost take her in and train her in their ways. As she spends more time with them, she falls in love with their culture and with Marin-he of the hot hands and slit eyes. But the E’mani took her for a reason and they want her back-dead or alive. If Beta doesn’t remember that reason soon, they’re all going to die.

Author Spotlight: Annie B Matthews

PictureIntroducing author Annie B Matthews, author of the YA paranormal novel Talent:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I have always been a voracious reader and writing seemed to be a natural extension of that. I love stories, whether they are written word or on the screen. I’m a runner too, which came as something of a surprise to me, but it’s a great way to bash out plot ideas.

2. When did you start writing, and why?
As a teenager, I would be frustrated by novel endings that I didn’t like and I would reimagine these all the time. I would have these little movies playing in my head too, but it wasn’t until a friend showed me a story she had written that I decided to start writing myself. I was twelve. I started writing YA as a teen and never stopped. Although I do have a couple of adult novels on the back burner.

3. What do you write, and why? What do you enjoy about what you write?
At the moment I primarily write YA, as that’s how I started and I like YA. I work with teenagers, so I listen to what they have to say about the fiction aimed at them and I try to consider that in my stories. For instance, many girls want the romance, but without the weak female character that often goes with that. I enjoy writing stories where the romance is important, but the heroine is more important. My heroines are independent and the guys they end up with are awesome, not ‘alpha’, regardless of their age!

4. What is your latest book or series? Any forthcoming books?
Talent is my first self-published novel and the sequel, Fire, will be out before Christmas. These will be the only two novels in the Talents series. I have some other projects I want to work on, including a novella on revenge bullying.

5. “Welcome To My Worlds”: Tell us a little about the world of your latest book or series.
The world of Talents is the world we live in, with a variety of ‘talented’ individuals. Telepaths, empaths, locator talents and future seers…just as every person is unique, so are the talents. The Talent world is, in many ways, in its infancy; these novels show the starting point for a new society that brings all the Talents together.

6. Introduce us to some of your characters. What do you like about them?
In Talent, we meet Libby. She’s ambitious, loyal and tenacious. I like her, as she’s not afraid of a challenge – she faces a lot of them! Her best friend, Kelly, also interested me as she started out happy and vivacious, but the world they live in has its own pressures. As she grows up, she has to work out her place in that world. It’s an interesting and often difficult journey that I think we can all relate to. Kelly is the heroine of Fire [book 2].

7. A fun fact you would like your readers to know about you or your book.
Talent took 2 years to finish because I didn’t think I could, or should. I met someone who writes and blogs, and she loves what she does. She inspired me to give it a go. Once I made my decision, the book was finished in 3 months.

Talent:
Libby didn’t expect to have her perfectly planned life uprooted half way through Sixth Form.
Starting a new school is the least of her worries, however, even though the natives aren’t too friendly and the boy she has an instant crush on looks at her as though she’s his worst enemy.
With her parents acting strangely, Libby starts to think that their big move might tear the family apart.
Then her mum disappears and Libby finds herself thrust into a world she never dreamed existed.

It turns out that no one is ever what they seem.

A young adult paranormal novel.

Book Review: One Crazy Night

PictureOne Crazy Night, an anthology by Nightshade Reads

Eight paranormal, fantasy, and urban fantasy authors have put their heads together and come up with this anthology of stories on the theme of how lives and even worlds can change in a single crazy night. Some of the stories are standalones; others are more like prologues or teasers for the authors’ longer works, but all are exciting and enjoyable. They range from the lighthearted YA humor of “Love Magic” by Louise Nicks, where two teenage sisters wreak havoc on a high school dance with an ill-made love spell, to the reflective “The Recruit,” by Sara Furlong Burr, in which an alcoholic firefighter, broken by his brother’s death, tries to find the wherewithal to move on and do something about it, to the horror of “Bellona,” Aoife Marie Sheridan’s look at the backstory of the villainess from her Saskia trilogy. And lots of other great stories – the undersea paranormal “Elements” by M.H. Soars; the poignant dystopian paranormal “The Keymaker” by Teshelle Combs; frightening YA nightmare “The Lady in Black” by R. Holland; Emma Faragher’s chilling legend “Necromancer Lineage”; and Sharon Stevenson’s engaging and slightly creepy urban fantasy “Reanimator.” (Though the anthology contains some YA selections, some graphic violence and horror content and minimally graphic sexual content makes it more suitable for older teens and adults.)

A highly recommended sampling of some fresh and exciting new voices in these genres – and the proceeds go to a very worthy cause, leukemia and lymphoma research. Definitely worth reading!

Find out more about the authors of Nightshade Reads and this anthology in this post.

Author Spotlight: Lydia Rodriguez-Clement

Lydia Rodriguez-ClementToday I’m happy to welcome paranormal-romance author Lydia Rodriguez-Clement to the blog:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
Let’s see. What can I say? Well, just like my main character Sarah, I live in San Antonio, Texas. I also come from a large Hispanic family, and I have a wonderful supportive husband, five children, and a dog. Yep, I said five children. Large families run in my family.2. When did you start writing, and why?
I started writing back in high school. My English teacher really encouraged me to write after a poetry assignment. She had liked my poetry so much that she entered a couple of them into the Pegasus Poetry Competition. Unfortunately I didn’t win. I know, I know. My heart has mended since then. But that was when I started writing my short stories, which she read aloud to the class every other Friday. From then on I was hooked. I loved the way I could express myself through the stories, give out a message, and have people really understand and like them.

3. What do you write, and why? What do you enjoy about what you write?
My primary genre is Paranormal Romance, but I would like to give Contemporary Romance a shot in the near future. I LOVE writing Paranormal Romance, because you can do absolutely anything in them. You are only hindered by your imagination.

4. What is your latest book or series? Any forthcoming books?
My book THE GUARDIAN is the first installment of what I hope to be a series. It is actually a revised version of Angelus, so DON’T read that one. My progress for the second one is slow, but I do have three chapters done already. And like I mentioned earlier, I would like to start on my Contemporary Romance somewhere in between.

The Guardian5. “Welcome To My Worlds”: Tell us a little about the world of your latest book or series.

This contemporary story takes place around the beautiful Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio, Texas where we have people that are born with a special gift – the ability to see Angels. They are called ‘Seers’, and they are pretty much a secret society. The dark veil between our world and the Angels’ is thick, and many events happen without us even knowing. Some events take place in dark shadows, in out of the way places, or kept hidden by Angels who stay invisible. But these Angels are no ordinary Angels that people usually think about. These Angels are soldiers…warriors. They engage in epic battles with demons and Fallen Angels. The primordial battle between good and evil in this story is one that goes back three hundred years. They fight with swords, spears and battle axes like ancient armies, but with one major difference, powers. They have been given powers beyond imagining. Teleportation, power over the elements and the ability to stop time, to name a few. All of these are shown in this story when one Angel dares to love a human woman.

6. Introduce us to some of your characters. What do you like about them?
Jacob is my hero. He is a Guardian Angel who gets abruptly reassigned to a new post. I really like him, because he is so relatable. He fights and loves with every fiber of his being. Sarah is the heroine who has lived a very sheltered life. I like her, because throughout the story you can actually see her grow as a person. Caleb is Jacob’s best friend that is also his Captain. That is a really hard relationship, but somehow they always seem to work things out. Now the bad guys are Seth and Samuel. They are Fallen Angels who focus their hatred on Jacob. Samuel wants to rule Jacob, while Seth wants to overpower him. I like Seth, because he showes that evil can come in sweet and handsome forms.

7. A fun fact you would like your readers to know about you or your book.
Hmm? A fun fact about me or my book? I’m not sure if this is fun, but I do LOVE to eat peanuts while I write. I ate while I wrote this book and I eat peanuts while I’m writing the second book. What kinds? All kinds! Chocolate covered, salted, roasted, spicy, and limon.

The Guardian:
THE GUARDIAN is a story about how Sarah’s spiritual beliefs are reaffirmed when the existence of Angels and Demons are horrifically revealed. Never had she dreamt that her mundane life would be caught in not only a struggle to stay alive in this clash of worlds, but also in a sadistic plan by the Dark Angels to lure Jacob, her own Guardian, to fall.

The Guardian is available at:

About the Author:

Author Spotlight: Dawn Marie Hamilton

Dawn Marie Hamilton

Introducing Dawn Marie Hamilton, author of Scottish fantasy-romance:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
Here is the official bio: Dawn Marie Hamilton dares you to dream. She is a 2013 RWA® Golden Heart® Finalist who pens Scottish-inspired fantasy and paranormal romance. Some of her tales are rife with mischief-making faeries, brownies, and other fae creatures. More tormented souls—shape shifters, vampires, and maybe a zombie or two—stalk across the pages of other stories. She is a member of several chapters of Romance Writers of America. When not writing, she’s cooking, gardening, or paddling the local creeks of Southern Maryland with her husband.

2. When did you start writing, and why?
As with many young girls, I kept a journal as a teenager. In high school, I wrote dark short stories. During my corporate career, I wrote computer software manuals and training material. Not very fanciful. While on a business trip in Brussels, I saw a billboard with a hot Highlander advertising whisky. I decided I wanted to write stories featuring smexy Scots.

3. What do you write, and why? What do you enjoy about what you write?
Scottish fantasy and paranormal romance with time travel elements. I enjoy taking readers to another place. A place of magic. A place of faeries and brownies and other fae creatures. A place of vampires and shifters and other dark creatures. A place where love spans centuries and is ever-lasting.

Highland Gardens Series4. What is your latest book or series? Any forthcoming books?

Just in Time for a Highland Christmas, a holiday novella, recently released as part of my Highland Gardens time travel series fraught with meddling fae. Just Wait For Me (A Highland Gardens Novel – Book 3) is scheduled for release Spring 2015. I’m also working on the second novel in the Crimson Storm vampire-shifter series, <em “mso-bidi-font-style:=”” normal”=””>Raven’s Revenge.5. “Welcome To My Worlds”: Tell us a little about the world of your latest book or series.
In the Highland Gardens series the Queen of the Fae challenges a banished faerie to craft three nearly impossible matches. The characters journey through time either from the lush gardens of the present day Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and the fictitious Village of Anderson Creek—a place over-run by Scottish ex-pats—to 16th century Scotland and vice versa.6. Introduce us to some of your characters. What do you like about them?
The Highland Gardens cast of characters stroll through multiple books. Robert and Archibald are twins. Smexy Highlanders. Archibald is the hero in Just in Time for a Highland Christmas and is the chief of Clan MacLaclan in 16th century Scotland. He’s gorgeous and proud and everything swoon-worthy. Lies have turned his betrothed (previously his twins betrothed), the raven-haired Isobell against him. She seeks revenge against him and his clan. Her pride matches Archibald’s. Caitrina is an auburn-haired beauty, a halfling faerie disguised as a gardener in the present, but releases her fae power in the past. Often at odds with Caitrina, Munn is the three foot tall bumbling clan brownie who’s trying to bring the couple together. As in all romances, by the end of the story, Archibald and Isobell find an everlasting love.
